Hi !

So here is a list of the last updated software.
This list is not always complete. Don't hesitate to search into BeWare too !

PowerPulsar fast link : you can download PowerPulsar from this page, but if you just need information and documentation, go to the Pulsar page.

Support BeOS for PowerPC ! Keep the coolest CPU alive !

1st January 1999

Tracker Add-ons for BeOS R4 Intel and PPC :
ZipMe Banner
  • zipme_076.zip (description: zipme_076.txt)
ZipMe is the coolest way to zip files and directories directly from the BeOS Tracker. Once ZipMe and the zip binary installed, you just need to right-click on a file and select ZipMe in the add-on context menu.
Important : this archive contains both Intel and PPC binaries for BeOS R4 !
New : ZipMe now comes in with a fancy install method : just unzip the archive and double-click the ZipMe binary, then select the friendly "Install Me !" button.
If your BeOS distribution doesn't comes with the zip executable installed, it's really simple to add. You can either get it from BeWare or from infozip. Zip is made available to you thanks to the great work of Chris Herborth.

Nerdkill and PowerPulsar for BeOS R4 Intel are coming soon.
R3 PowerPC releases just work fine under R4 PowerPC.

Tracker Add-ons for BeOS R3 Intel and PPC :

  • expandme_065.zip (description: expandme_065.txt)
ExpandMe is the precursor of the native BeOS tool Expander. It allows you to expand compressed files with just one click or a keypress. It's a Tracker add-on, which means its use is pretty straightforward : just select the file and select ExpandMe in the File>Add-ons menu !
Important : this archive contains both Intel and PPC binaries for BeOS R3 !
New : ExpandMe now comes in with a fancy install method : just unzip the archive (... ;-)) and double-click the ExpandMe binary, then select the friendly "Install Me !" button.

Nerdkill 1.0 for BeOS R3 Intel and PPC :
Nerdkill Banner
  • nerdkill_1.0_x86_ppc.zip (description: nerdkill_1.0_x86_ppc.txt)
Nerdkill is a blast-all-these-nerds game. The deal of this freeware-class game ? To de-stress yourself after a tough day of work at the office running Windows...
OK that's just an excuse to get rid of these annoying nerds. Shoot them, gun them, electrize them, explode them ! No one must escape !
Started as a two-days coding joke after playing with some friend's Amiga box...
First presented at Paris' Be GeekFest, Feb'97.
Presented at BeDC Master Awards, May 1997.
Have a nice nerdkilling and stay tuned for the incoming Nerdkill 3d release [RSN :-)] Important : this archive contains both Intel and PPC binaries for BeOS R3 !

Download the snapshoot version of PowerPulsar for BeOS Intel : PowerPulsar 0.7.6d x86 archive (917 kB)
This release of PowerPulsar is a temporary release. It is limited in the way that I didn't recompiled every add-on yet, that optimizations are fake. Anyway, the CD Audio stuff now correctly works for any IDE based CD-Audio (many thanks to the Be dev support guys !).
The archive also contains the source for a simple add-on. Since the archive doesn't contain any information, there is some material on the Pulsar page that you may consider reading for further details or explanations.
Otherwise, this release is stricly identical to the latest available for BeOS PPC PR2.

Projects Status

(list updated the 1st January 1999)

Name Description
RLib A portable library. It's the core classes for all my new projects. The lib gives a uniform class canvas that allows for programming on BeOS (R3 Intel and R3 PPC) and on Windows. AmigaOS port is possible and a Linux port would be cool. Almost done (at least at the conception level). Unpublished dreamware.
Poucet My future toy 3d engine. Not started, and thus unpublished.
Tacet My toy ray-casting engine. Used by Nerdkill 3d. I'm currently working on this : the paper draft impatiently waits to be coded ;-). Not started yet. Unpublished.
PowerPulsar More or less ported to R3 Intel.
Working on the next release, running at least on BeOS Intel, BeOS PPC and Windows. Based on the RLib and possibly on the Poucet engine or any other more serious 3d engine (OpenGL, RazMot).
Best experienced with a bi-PowerPC box (blue or beige, as you wish :-)).
Nerdkill I finaly published the 1.0 version. The project is closed.
Nerdkill 3D The next release of Nerdkill. Based on RLib and Tacet, it will run under BeOS and Windows. Not started yet.
VideoShooter Grabber & player running under BeOS. Player running (bugging) under Windows. Based on RLib. Unpublished due to absence of GUI.
ShellMe Temporarily suspended.
ZipMe Indefinitely suspended. Updated from time to time.
ExpandMe Indefinitely suspended. Updated from time to time.
DiskMapper Suspended. Should revive since I got the info I needed :-)
Pegase A version control and source archiving project, based on a client/server model.
Discontinued for an obvious reason : I can't compete with RCS and just doing a GUI on top of the former is of little interest to me (command-line's good enough).
ABCD A mix between a mind-mapping editor and a textual plan editor.
Frozen to death.

Old & Obsolete Links

Old'n obsolete links have been moved away to improve your download time. Anyway, these links are still available here.
Enjoy !

A bit of history...

I'm a BeOS geek since February 1994, when I used the first Hobbit BeBox available in France. From 1994 to 1996, I had a lot of fun using BeOS, and pain too. From the Hobbit BeBox and its "experimental" OS (which was already very cool) to the first PowerPC BeBox, I had a great pleasure developping on the BeOS, but my contributions to the worldwide BeOS community were limited. Things changed at the beginning of 1997, when I started coding on the BeOS for my own pleasure, coding on the softwares I really like.
